Piceno was declared to run at Lingfield on Wednesday but unfortunately developed a rash which ruled him out of the race, nothing serious and he is still in full training but couldn’t run.
File and Paint ran at Wolverhampton on Saturday night in the 1 mile ½ furlong handicap. Graham Gibbons had been booked to ride and although not 100% fit she was well enough to do herself justice. The plan was to settle in behind the leaders and let her get used to the surface and do her best at the end. Graham followed plans to the letter and File and Paint was always well positioned. Turning for home it looked like she was going to come out on top but she slightly faded into third beaten only just over a length with Graham easing down at the finish.
Mitchell’s Way ran at Carlisle on Sunday in the two and a half mile handicap after Hexham was abandoned on Wednesday. He was ridden as usual by Fearghal Davies. Mitchell’s Way was prominent throughout on the very heavy going. Fearghal tried to increase the pace around half a mile from home but couldn’t shake off the attentions of the McCain pair but Mitchell’s to his credit kept going and was still in with a chance at the last flight of hurdles. He tried all the way up the run in and finished a gallant fourth staying on all the time. Fearghal was happy with his run stating he would stay further and gave his best on the day.
