Ailsa Craig lined up the Jack Everson Memorial Handicap over 10 furlongs today at Redcar. Paul Mulrennan was aboard the Edwin Tuer trained mare. Paul was carrying 2lb overweight.
Alisa was drawn in stall 7 and broke smartly, Paul kept her in mid division in the early stages of the race. 4 furlongs from home, Paul began to move Ailsa into a challenging position and she looked to be travelling nicely.
At the furlong marker, Ailsa was a half a length off the lead but lacked a finishing kick to press on, she finished a very good 3rd on the day, a big improvement on recent runs.
We may step her up in distance now and see how she goes.
A couple of hours later at the same venue, Blue Maisey lined up for the same trainer & jockey combination. She was running in the class 5 handicap over 1 mile. She was well supported before the race and was sent off at a price 13/2.
They seemed to go a good early clip and Paul kept Maisey in the mid division. 3 furlongs from home, Paul began to get busy in the saddle and although under pressure, she was reeling in the leaders.
Paul switched her to the inside and at the furlong marker, she had gone into a share of the lead. Maisey battled on gamely to hold off the rallying Dark Side to win by a head. Winner!
We always felt that she would show her best on firm ground. Well done to her owners & team Tuer, a well-deserved success.
