Well, we knew he was good but the sight of Toocoolforschool stretching the field and going so close to winning a group race simply blew us away; a flying machine.
He was drawn in stall 1 and from the off Ben made the most of the draw and held position at the head of the field. They went a severe gallop but our lad took it all in his stride and turning into the home straight was travelling supremely well.
2 furlongs out, with a lot of the field in trouble , Ben began to ask Toocool to go on and he did. At the furlong marker with the cardiac unit on standby; he went a length clear but the gutsy Dutch Connection ridden by William Buick began to stay on and he collared Toocool in the last strides to win by a head.
A new course record for 2 year olds, simply an amazing performance from the Karl Burke trained son of Showcasing.
This is what dreams are made of and what a future this horse has; all being well.
It started another amazing day of the team at Spigot Lodge, they are in scorching hot form. Isn’t it funny the harder you work; the luckier you become!
Thanks for all the well wishes and tweets and a huge congrats to all connections, dreamland.
Quotes from Karl:
“We thought a lot of him, that’s why we came here.
“I did think he was better than the handicapper said, but he has still exceeded my expectations there.
“He’s quite gawky, and perhaps he was just in front 100 yards too soon but he has run a great race and we know he belongs in this company now.”
Frontline Phantom ran at Yarmouth today in the class 5 handicap over 9 furlongs. The Karl Burke trained 7 year old was seeking a second win in 4 days having won at Doncaster on Saturday under Peter Sword.
With Peter was on board again today and he was sent off a 4/5 well supported favourite.
From the off Peter settled Frontline in 3rd position on the rail, in the slipstream of the leader. He stayed there for the majority of the race with Peter biding his time on the well travelling Frontline. As the front 2 came under pressure, the leader came off the rail, leaving a nice gap and Peter didn’t hesitate in accepting the invitation.
By the 2 furlong marker, he had gone into the lead and stayed there, going on to score by a couple of lengths
An excellent performance from both horse and jockey to give them a great 4 days and an excellent training performance from the team at Spigot Lodge. Frontline gave them their 50th winner of the season; a fantastic milestone to achieve and by the close of business Jay Kay landed their 51st – a team going places.
It brought OnToAWinner to the 20th winner for the year; well done to all the team and a big thank you to all our trainers and owners.
Toocoolforschool runs tomorrow in the Tattersalls Acomb Stakes (Group 3) contest over 7 furlongs tomorrow at York.
This is OnToAWinner’s 1st runner in a group contest and to say we are delighted to achieve this milestone is an understatement
Looking down the card, it’s a who’s who of top class breeders, trainers and jockeys with the Aidan O Brien trained Jamaica available at a price of 25/1 for the 2015 Derby.
Toocoolforschool won handily at the second time of asking and now takes a huge step up in class, he is a 25/1 shot for the 12 runner event – is the price a fair reflection of his chances? – we’el find out tomorrow.
One thing is for sure, whatever the outcome; all his owners and connections will relish and enjoy the experience as opportunities like this don’t come along every day.
Little Lady Katie ran yesterday in the fillies maiden over 6 furlongs with Joey Haynes taking the ride, she was drawn in stall 6 for the 15 runner event and sent off at a huge price of 50/1.
From the stalls, Joey settled her in mid division. She was showing a few signs of inexperience in the early stages and became outpaced mid-way through the race, Joey had to get to work and she responded in great fashion.
She started to rally and pass horses and by the furlong marker, she had gone into a share of the lead and went on to score gamely by a head.
She is a very well bought filly with a great attitude.
A very welcome surprise in a bonus race – a great start to the week.
Toocoolforschool ran in the maiden this evening over the same distance with Ben Curtis on board the son of Showcasing. He opened up at 9/2 and was sent off the well supported 2/1 favourite.
He was drawn in stall 9 for the 9 runner event.
From the off, Ben was eager to make the most of his draw and grab the rail. Keen to set the tempo, he positioned himself at the front and led from pillar to post to score by over a length.
We have always felt that this could be a nice horse and the signs are very promising, this was a very convincing win with ears pricked all the way to the line, a great sight.
Two 2 year old winners in 2 days – dreamland!
A massive well done to all their owners and to Karl Burke and all of his team at Spigot Lodge, a great bunch of people at the top of their game.
