Fast Shot ran at Thirsk on Saturday in the seven furlong handicap. Fast Shot still had some of his winter coat. The ground had dried up in the glorious sunshine and the draw had been unkind with him being drawn widest of the entire field. Fast Shot was ridden as usual by David Allan. They broke smartly from the wide draw and David tucked the horse in towards the rear of the pack. The pace up front was brisk and David kept him towards the rear. Into the home straight the pace was still strong and David tried to make progress but with the faster ground and the extra furlong David could never get Fast Shot competitive and they finished just over eight lengths behind the winner. There are plenty races for him coming up.

Burnhope was having his first run in the Ontoawinner colours in the six furlong handicap. Ridden by Billy Cray the horse looked fantastic in the paddock and is certainly a big horse. Scott stated he is only just starting to fill his big frame. Scott told Billy to keep the horse at it as he has such a big stride and keeps galloping. Drawn in stall sixteen of the twenty runners, it was a guessing game which side of the track would be faster. Breaking well from the stalls Burnhope came to the near side rail with a group of ten others, whilst the other half of the field went to the far rail. It was clear Burnhope was showing great speed and was clear on his side of the track but you couldn’t be sure if the other side were in front or behind. Another horse came to challenge Burnhope but he fought off this rival and inside the final furlong he was in front of his group. Unfortunately the group on the far side were in front and Burnhope finished a gallant fourth, but won the race on the near side rail. Billy said that he showed tremendous speed and battled even when the other horse came to him. It was a great performance for his first run on turf. He is a sprinter to really look forward to now and in the future.  He can win this year and will only improve with time. He could take his owners to all the top tracks.
