Arch Walker ran in the 5f sprint at Bath on bank holiday Monday and was ridden by fellow Middleham resident Michael Metcalfe. Archie was having his seasonal debut. He broke well and travelled well enough until meeting a lot of trouble as the race got serious. Michael had nowhere to go and had to sit and suffer waiting for a gap. That never came and Archie finished down the field. That’s sprint racing and we hope for a better passage next day.

Fast Shot ran in the 6f sprint at Ripon on Friday evening. The showers forecast were hit and miss and the rain he craves never got into the ground there. He was drawn well and was partnered as usual by David Allan. He broke smartly and travelled sweetly amongst the leaders. When push came to shove the lack of recent gallop work showed but he still finished a credible third.

Miami Gator ran the same night at Hamilton. He travelled well under Robert Winston until two furlongs out and then when under pressure he hung across the track. Robert said he didn’t feel great going to post and was hanging on one reign.

Gold Show was tried over 1m4f at Thirsk on Saturday. Paul Mulrennan was booked as he knows her fairly well, having previously won on her at Ponefract. He was really confident beforehand that she would stay. She travelled beautifully for over a mile but when the race got serious she was squeezed for room and got in all sorts of trouble. The race ran away from her after that and she finished 12th of 14.

Blue Maisey ran in the following race at Thirsk. She was drawn out in the carpark so confidence of finishing in the money was low. Paul jumped her out into a prominent position from the unkind draw. She travelled beautifully and took closer order three furlongs out. She battled on gamely to the line finishing 4th. We were delighted with that effort and feel the elusive seasonal win can’t be far away. She looked great in the paddock and Edwin has done well with her.
