Flat Season Preview Part 2
The flat season is now upon us. Last week we brought you our Flat Season Preview Part 1; featuring Elaine & Karl Burke. Over the coming weeks, we will be blogging previews on all of our trainers and horses, giving you updates on how they have wintered, our trainers thoughts and what we expect from them in the season ahead. OnToAWinner head into the flat season with a vastly improved string, increased optimism and we looking forward to building on our tally from last season. Part 2 of our preview focuses on Scott Dixon.
Scott is a racehorse trainer based at the picturesque Haygarth House Stud near Retford, Nottinghamshire. The youngest trainer in Britain, Scott has already underlined his ambitions by saddling a string of notable winners on the All-Weather and Turf since taking out his license and currently holds the highest strike rate at Epsom in the country with 44% winners to runners, impressive.
Despite his young age, Scott has worked as understudy to Jeremy Glover and Alan Mc Cabe, he was also assistant trainer to Dandy Nicholls. During his term as assistant to Dandy Nicholls, he was in charge of the yard and had the thrill of being responsible for Docofthebay winning his listed race. He is a young trainer with a very bright future and OnToAWinner are delighted to have developed an excellent partnership with him and his team.
Horses Trained By Scott are:
Burnhope : Burnhope is a big 4 year old bay gelding, a winner of 2 races and placed 2 times from 10 starts. This gelding won a 7f maiden at Lingfield on only his fourth career start and followed that up with a creditable run in defeat on his handicap debut at Kempton. He has a current rating of 76 and has the scope to progress on turf this season. He will be ready to run early in the season and will be contesting valuable handicaps over 6 and 7 furlongs.
Scott thinks a lot of Burnhope and we share the opinion that there is more to come from this fella. He is a grand big horse with excellent cruising speed and will competing is some serious handicaps this season. Fast Shot has given his owners some great days out at the top tracks, we believe that Burnhope has a very similar profile. If you want to get involved in a horse that will be running at Doncaster and York on big days, this is the horse for you. We are bubbling with excitement to see what the season holds for him.
Piceno: Piceno is a 5 year old bay gelding, a winner of 4 races and placed 9 times from 35 starts. He has a current rating of 75 and is open to further improvement. He has won at 7 furlongs and a mile on both turf and the all-weather. He was an impressive winner at the tail end of last season at Catterick where he went on to score by 6 lengths on soft ground. He finished an excellent 2nd on debut in the Yellow and White and subsequently placed on another couple of occasions. He will run on both the all-weather and turf throughout the season, he is a good dual purpose type and is a certain winner for any prospective owner.
We offer lease shares in Piceno, this means that there is no upfront purchase, you simply pay monthly fees of £110 per 5% share and just £60 per 2.5% share. If you have ever considered dipping your toe into racehorse ownership, Piceno may be the ideal horse to get started with, he will be running in some good handicaps and will be winning races this season.
