Mitchells Way At Catterick
Mitchells Way made his debut over hurdles yesterday at Catterick. Fearghal Davis was on board for the Alan Swinbank trained 4 year old.
The race started off at a frantic pace with a few of the novices eager to get a decent position. This caused chaos at the 1st fence with the 3rd favourite – Aegean Destiny falling, bringing down the 2nd favourite Cry of Freedom.
Mitchells Way was held up in mid division and jumped soundly enough considering his inexperience of the hurdles.
The hot favourite – Star in flight, trained by Donald Mc Cain led them all the way around at a decent clip and in a trip than was shorter than ideal, Mitchells Way began to get outpaced with 4 fences left. Turning for home, with 2 fences to jump , our lad was in 7th position but as expected, he began to show that he wants a further trip and started to stay on better than some of the other horses.
With the race at his mercy, Jason Maguire aboard the favourite clipped the last fence and couldn’t stay aboard , with the Chris Bealby trained Countess Comit winning the race at a nice price of 28/1
Mitchells Way stayed on gamely for 4th.
For his 1st time over hurdles in a less than ideal trip, we are very happy with the performance from our lad who will have learned a lot from this exercise. We will be looking for a race over a longer trip and no doubt , he will be winning soon.
