Piceno 2nd On Debut
Piceno ran in the Class 5 handicap over 7 furlongs today at Southwell. Luke Morris took the ride.
Drawn in stall 1, he broke smartly and made full use of his good draw to hold the lead early on. As they made their way towards the turn, Luke edged Piceno closer to the rail and began to dictate the tempo aboard the Scott Dixon trained 4 year old.
Turning for home, Luke began to ask questions and Piceno responded. At this stage, Fayr Fall trained by Tim Easterby looked to be travelling supremely well . 1 and a half furlongs out , it looked as though the well handicapped Fayr Fall would score cosily but Piceno would not give in . A battle ensued and Piceno was beaten a neck, finishing a gallant 2nd.
This was an excellent debut performance for OnToAWinner from Piceno under top weight.
