Staxton wins the opener on Plate day

Staxton travelled up to Newcastle for their opening race on plate day, the 6-furlong class 2 Handicap.

Staxton broke well from the stalls and tracked the leader. He travelled well to the furlong pole when Duran gave him a flick of the whip and Staxton picked up and went a couple of lengths clear travelling supremely well all the way to the line to win by 1 and ½ lengths.

Credit should be given to Duran Fentiman who had given the horse a fantastic ride. It was great to see the horse back winning as he had run some solid runs in defeat.

Well done to Tim Easterby and all the team at Habton Farms for all your hard work.

Congratulations to owners on a truly memorable day, watched live by the ITV viewers.
