We had 3 runners today, Piceno and Gold Show lined up at Pontefract and Eutropius went to Southwell.
We had a private box at Pontefract for our owners and must thank Richard and Wendy for their excellent hospitality, our owners had a brilliant time.
Piceno was the 1st to run, he ran in the 1st race at Pontefract , a Class 5 handicap over 1 mile, Tom Queally took the ride aboard the Scott Dixon trained 5 year old. He was drawn is stall 7 for the 16 runner race.
Piceno broke smartly and Tom was able to take up a nice position, lying 5th on the rail entering the 1st bend. Midway through the race, he looked to be travelling very well.
As the rounded the final bend and began the climb for home, Tom got busy on Piceno and he began to reel in the leaders, he was only 1 length off the lead at the furlong point when he was squeezed for room and had to switch to the inside for the closing stages.
He finished a game 4th and would have been closer with a bit more luck, another fine ride by Tom Queally who we must say is an absolute gent and great with our owners. Piceno is a really consistent handicapper, his turn to win is not far away.
20 minutes later, Eutropius lined up at Southwell. Eutropius has had his fair share of injuries and had only run once previously in the Yellow & White. He is free of injuries now and this was his 1st start of the season.
Eutropius was running on the class 6 maiden over 7 furlongs, Russ Kennemore rode the Alan Swinbank trained 4 year old. He was drawn in stall 4.
He broke well and Russ held him up off the pace in last position in the early stages, on the bend he eased by some of his rivals, moving into 4th position entering the home straight. Russ began to squeeze and he moved into a share of the lead at the 2f mark. Russ kept him up to his work and he went on to win with plenty in hand.
This was a great win for his owners who have been very patient and very unlucky with this horse to date. We are confident he will now go on and justify our belief of his ability. He will get better with each race. Winner !
Finally, Gold Show lined up in the last race at Pontefract. She was trained by Mick Channon last year and was picked up at the sales by Edwin Tuer. This was her 1st run in the Yellow & White.
Paul Mulrennan rode her for her OnToAWinner debut. She was drawn in stall 4 for the class 5, 14 runner event over 10 furlongs. Paul held her up in the early stages, they seemed to be going a decent clip early doors. The filly looked to the travelling well and Paul held his position on the rail in mid division for the most part. Approaching the final turn, he began to make his move and move up through the field.
At the 2 furlong point, is was a case that if the gaps come at the right times, she had a great chance. The gaps appeared and Gold Show went into a share of the lead at the furlong mark and battled well to win but ¾ of a length, a great ride by Paul, Well done. A great training performance by Edwin, Edwin has already proved that he has a great ability to improve fillies which he has previously demonstrated with Easy Terms , this was another great training performance. Well done to all of her owners and a big well done to Edwin.
2 out 3 aint bad, its bloody brilliant.
We still have shares available in Piceno and Gold Show, certain winners for the season ahead.
