Here we have a strapping colt by Ivawood. This colt looks a real 2yo sprinter, he is compact, walks like a sprinter and just looks every inch an early 2 year old, he really is one you have to have a second look at, being trained by a 2 year old specialist in Karl Burke.
The sire, Ivawood was an ultra-fast sprinter as a 2 year old, winning the Group 2 pair July stakes and Richmond stakes in faster times than the great Shalaa. He went on to finish 2nd in the Group 1 Middle Park stakes, he beat champion sprinter Muhaarar on every occasion they met as a 2 year old, which is seriously impressive. He went onto finish 3rd in both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas as a 3 year old. This season will see his first 2 year olds hit the track and we believe he is a value stallion at €5000; he stands at the best stud in the world, Coolmore which is an advertisement in itself.
The Dam, Precautionary, has black type and high class performers littered all over her page with 2 year old winners all over the Dam’s progeny. The dam has already produced Curiosity, rated 99 who has already won over 50k in his career, with a fantastic 2nd in the Britannia stakes Heritage handicap at Royal Ascot and the useful Tin Hat who is the dam latest produce before our colt. Precautionarys dam, Well Warned, produced Prohibit who won the Group 1 Kings Stand at Royal Ascot and was Group 2 placed herself.
Our colt is a typical early 2 year old sprinter type, he looks like a 2 year old already and will be ready early. The colts page has everything going for him, the family have all won at 2 and continue to progress to win at 3 onwards too and our colt should be no different, he is with the right trainer for this type too. We are pleased he will be running in the Ontoawinner silks for the coming year, he is great value for money, a sprinting type and an early 2 year old; he is worth a second look.
Karl Burke Update – January 2019
“The Ivawood colt is going well, he looks to be one of my early runners and he is nicely compact, from what I have already seen he should be winning races early doors of the season, we have picked him up cheaply in my opinion and I think he would do well at a breeze up, I like this colt”
