Lawrence was born and raised in Co. Tipperary in Ireland just a stones’ throw from the famous Coolmore Stud. After leaving school he pursued a career in racing initially becoming a conditional jockey Michael Oliver (who trained West Tip to win the Grand National) and Tommy Stack. To further his career he eventually took the decision to move to England where he was recruited by the great Peter Easterby for whom he worked with for twelve years as conditional jockey and later as Head Lad to Peter’s son Tim Easterby. During his time with the Easterby’s Lawrence experienced all aspects of training working with some great horses and vastly enhancing his knowledge. In 2008 Lawrence took the decision to go it alone an set up his own yard at the family farm in Great Habton just a few miles from Malton, North Yorkshire. After just a handful of runners in 2008, Lawrence’s first winner came at Nottingham in April 2009 when Molly Two led from start to finish to win under Paul Hanagan at odds of 14/1. Since then Lawrence has grown and thrived and 2018 has been his best year to date. He has moved to superb facilities in Middleham and the winners are flowing.
