We currently have shares available in the warrior that is Pearl Acclaim. Pearl has been a revelation for our yellow and white silks since joining us in August 2017, winning 5 times in only a year and a half is incredible for a horse going into his 8th season of racing as a 9 year old.
Pearl Acclaim started at Richard Hannon Snr’s yard, beaten on debut by now leading sire Havana Gold he went onto claim two victories in a maiden at Sandown before winning a class 3 at Ripon. Pearl started 9/2 second favourite for the Gimcrack at York, it wasn’t to be though and he finished an honourable fifth, he was then tried in the Sirenia Stakes Group 3 at Kempton and started 4/1 favourite, but again he finished fifth and was sold to Robert Cowell’s yard. In Robert Cowell’s yard Pearl couldn’t flourish; he did not win a race and his best finish was second on his last start for Robert Cowell before being bought by Sprint King Dandy Nicholls.
Under Dandy Nicholls care Pearl won his best race to date in the 2015 20k Musselburgh Scottish Sprint Cup Consolation race @ 16/1 under Paul Quinn, like so many horses Dandy Nicholls got a great sprint handicap out of him, but that was the best the late great trainer could get from Pearl and was moved to David O’Meara’s yard. Under David O’Meara he couldn’t win a race but finished 2nd twice meaning he hadn’t won since June 2015, he was quickly bought into David Griffiths yard and that is where our story begins.
August 2017 and Pearl runs for the Ontoawinner and David Griffiths partnership for the first time, and what a story it’s been. Pearl had his first win for us in December 2017 to which he quickly followed up a week later in a class 5 going up 16 pounds in the process, but it didn’t stop there. In January 2018 Pearl was again in the winners enclosure, again at his beloved Southwell he won a Class 4 handicap to notch up his third win in 2 months, sensational stuff, his owners couldn’t believe their luck. Pearl then broke the duck of winning on grass since that 2015 victory at Musselburgh by winning at Catterick in August 2018, proving he can do the business on both grass and the all-weather.
Roll onto January 2019 and Pearl is still in fantastic form, recently winning again for us (11/1/19) to claim his fifth victory in only a year and a half in the Ontoawinner silks. David Griffiths has done the most wonderful job with Pearl and he deserves the upmost respect and credit for what he has achieved with him, he and his team deserve all the plaudits. What else do we say about Pearl Acclaim? He’s a tough, likeable sort who wants to win and he is sure to get you into the winners enclosure; that’s all we can say for the great Pearl Acclaim.
David Griffiths on Pearl Acclaim:
“I am thrilled for my team and the Ontoawinner owners for their achievements with Pearl, he is a fantastic horse to train and he is so game in his races. I am particularly proud of his win at Catterick because he showed he can still win on grass. He will continue to be aimed at suitable races we can win, and we will continue to enjoy going racing with you”
